My journey, so far…
My journey began as a physical education teacher, graduating from St Mary’s University, Twickenham in 2004. I enjoyed a career in schools as a physical education teacher, subject leader, school sport coordinator, dedicated PSHE teacher and mentor. After achieving a distinction in my MA on Educational Leadership and Change, my school-based experience inspired me to move into higher education, supporting new teachers in physical education in both primary and secondary schools. In 2016, I completed my Doctorate in Education (EdD) focusing on teacher professional knowledge in primary physical education. I have published extensively around this work since. I have undertaken various academic roles in higher education including co-faculty lead in education for research and knowledge exchange, joint leadership of the REF for the 2021 education submission and external examiner for three higher education institutions. I continue to support universities in preparing for the 2029 REF submission.
Today, I work with schools, charities, local and national organisations. supporting programme development and teacher education in physical education, physical activity and emotional wellbeing. I have worked with stormbreak CIO, Hampshire County Council, BBC Teach, Findel Education, PE Scholar and Oak National Academy, to design resources, deliver training and evaluate programmes that make a real difference for children, teachers and school leaders.
Alongside my consultancy work, I am a Visiting Associate Professor at the University of Gloucestershire, Hon. Secretary of the AIESEP Primary /Elementary PE Special Interest Group and an Associate Editor for the Physical Education Sport Pedagogy Journal - an international leading journal in the field of physical education.
At heart, I’m driven to support the teaching profession, ensuring every child feels the joy and confidence that movement brings — and believe that empowering teachers is the best way to make that happen.
